Lord Ganesh is associated with everything auspicious, and he is the God who generously blesses his devotees with health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. Today is the day that it is believed Lord Ganesha was born, so all devotees of Shiva and Parvati celebrate this day with great devotion.
There are several legends associated with Vinayaka – it is believed that Parvati needed someone like Nandi, so she carved Ganesh out of dough and gave birth to him. With that, Shiva wasn’t made aware that Ganesh existed. One day when Parvati went for a bath, she put Ganesh in-charge to not let anyone in. Shiva had come meanwhile and he was not allowed in. That led Shiva to dismember Ganesh’s head. Remorseful after realizing what he had done, he asked his followers to bring in the first head they would spot – that is how Ganesh got his elephant head.
Worshipping Ganesh would invoke blessings, peace, happiness and prosperity.
