World’s Oldest Couple Celebrates 82 Years Of Married Life Together

In this generation of hookups and fickle love, it is indeed rare to find people who genuinely remain bound to each other for a long time. However one couple has passed the test of love and is celebrating 82 years of marriage together. Willie and D.W. Williams have a lot of life (and a lot of love) under their belts.

On Sunday, D.W., 103, and his wife Willie, 100, celebrated not only their birthdays—which are just seven days apart—but a staggering 82 years of marriage. Can you imagine such a number? Their love has lasted for almost a century.

According to WSOC-TV, their daughter and granddaughter, BJ Williams-Greene, marked the trifecta of milestones by throwing the centenarian couple one big party at First Mayfield Memorial Baptist in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was a very happy gathering for all the people of the town and for the family members themselves.

W.and Willie said they remember meeting when cab rides were just 10 cents. Together they have lived through wars, The Depression, and the Civil Rights Era. They had seen the rise and fall of governments and people and movements and they had made it through it all.

But when it comes to keeping their love alive for the better part of a century, they told WSOC-TV that they’re really no big secret. Their main advice to all young couples struggling with each other was a very simple and kind one.

“Just be nice to each other,” they agreed.

“They are each other’s best friend,” added Williams-Greene. And in this era, maybe a little friendship and openness is what we all need. Let us hope these lovebirds stay happy for a longer time now and show the world that true love does exist!
