Nobody can think of Hindi cinemas of the 70s and 80s and not remember Amitabh Bachhan. One of the major stalwarts of the country, he indeed has made himself a household name witha repertoire of amazing roles. Thespian Amitabh Bachchan, who has starred in a multitude of films, will be conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke award. This was confirmed by the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar in a tweet.
Hailing the legendary actor’s contribution to cinema, Javadekar said that the actor had been “selected unanimously” for the award.
The septuagenarian actor was awarded with the Padma Shri in 1984. In 2001, he was feted with the Padma Bhushan, 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. He was also conferred with France’s highest civilian honour, the Knight of the Legion of Honour, by the French Government in 2007 for his “exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond”.
